In early September, Madison opened the first and biggest skatepark in Wisconsin. With an approximate 20,000 square feet, skating near downtown is now legal only in this location.

“The skatepark is a wonderful addition to Central Park, and many years in the making. I am especially grateful to the grassroots leadership of the Madison Skatepark Fund who did not let this dream die, and of course to the Goodman Foundation for its generous donation,” said Madison Mayor Soglin

The skatepark is located at Central Park in the 200 block of South Ingersoll street. The park has various obstacles, as well as two bowls to skate up and down.

“Once you get comfortable on your board, you just kinda know how to fall down,” said one local skater in response to an On the Edge News reporter’s questions of safety.

For many local skaters, the new park is a dream come true after more than ten years of waiting. Karl Tollefson, a middle aged skater, mentioned that the skating community hosts events and often posts photos as well as videos of skaters on their Madtown Skatepark Facebook page.
