An 18-year-old woman from Claysburg is facing multiple charges after state troopers allegedly found her with drugs and a loaded gun during a January traffic stop in Altoona.
Daisy Ann Thomas was formally arraigned this week on several serious charges, including possession with intent to deliver, carrying a firearm without a license, illegal possession of weapons, and drug-related offenses. She is currently being held at Blair County Prison with bail set at $30,000.
According to court documents, Thomas was pulled over on Jan. 30 near 6th Avenue and 7th Street after a state police license plate reader flagged the SUV she was driving. The vehicle was reportedly flagged for canceled insurance, expired inspection—by three months—and a cracked windshield.
Police said Thomas only had a Pennsylvania identification card and no valid driver’s license. She told troopers she was simply heading to the store. Troopers also noted that the SUV was registered to a person who had an outstanding warrant related to drug charges.
When questioned about anything illegal inside the vehicle, Thomas allegedly admitted that a bag on the passenger seat belonged to her and contained a scale. After she gave permission to search the vehicle, police reported finding a ski mask containing an ounce of methamphetamine and three grams of fentanyl. Two scales were also discovered inside her bag.
Thomas allegedly told troopers that a loaded .22 caliber black revolver, found in the second-row seating area, had been bought by her boyfriend from an unknown man. She admitted the drugs had been given to her by someone she didn’t know to sell.
Although she initially agreed to cooperate with authorities, state police said she later stopped providing information during questioning at PSP Hollidaysburg.
Thomas was arraigned on May 19, and a preliminary hearing is set for May 27.
