BRIGHTON, Colo. — One person has died and two others safely escaped after a house fire broke out Sunday afternoon in a rural part of Brighton.
Brighton Fire Rescue District said the blaze was reported around 12:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of East 132nd Avenue, just south of downtown. When crews arrived, they found the home engulfed in smoke.
According to spokesperson Ty Ono, two of the three occupants had managed to evacuate without injuries. Firefighters entered the home to search for the third person. Despite life-saving efforts by EMTs and first responders, the individual later died from their injuries.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and Adams County Fire Rescue will lead the investigation into what sparked the blaze.
Ono confirmed that no neighboring homes were affected by the fire.
“It is tragic that this has happened on Mother’s Day, a time for families to rejoice and celebrate each other,” Ono said. “Our hearts and our thoughts and prayers go to those affected. We’re doing all we can to assist.”
