CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Authorities say a sophisticated copper theft ring has targeted businesses across several Texas counties, causing over $120,000 in damages—and counting. The alleged ringleader, Brandon Tedder, remains on the run.
According to the Robstown Police Department, Tedder is believed to be orchestrating a series of thefts focused on copper wiring and tubing. Investigators said the crew has been cutting fences, stripping valuable copper, and vanishing before law enforcement can respond.
In the Robstown Police impound lot, stolen copper is stacked high—not as scrap, but as key evidence in an expanding investigation.
“They are taking the copper wiring, casing, and selling it on the side for profit,” said Det. Sgt. Rene Garcia of Robstown PD. “They’re targeting anything with copper.”
A $100,000 Heist With a Forklift
One of the most daring thefts took place at a portable power company on Robstown’s north side, where suspects allegedly used the company’s own forklift to steal nearly $100,000 worth of copper.
“Corpus needs a break. Robstown needs a break from this guy,” said Police Chief Mike Tamez. “He’s been tearing us up.”
Tedder Remains Elusive
Despite surveillance efforts from Robstown Police, Corpus Christi PD, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, Tedder has managed to evade capture. Officers say he’s now in hiding.
“He is very desperate,” Tamez said. “Our teams have monitored his residence and other known spots for days, but we haven’t seen him.”
Tedder was recently pulled over, and police impounded his SUV and trailer. However, with no conclusive link to the thefts at that time, he was released. By the time a search warrant was secured, he had disappeared.
Accomplices in Custody, Manhunt Intensifies
As of Thursday evening, two of Tedder’s alleged accomplices have been arrested. Meanwhile, the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force has joined the ongoing manhunt for Tedder.
