WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) — Cool and unsettled weather will dominate the week across northern and central Wisconsin, with a First Alert issued for frost risk Sunday night into Monday morning.
Frost and Freeze Warnings in Effect
Late Sunday night, the Northwoods will face the potential for frost or freeze conditions, with patchy frost possible in central and southern parts of the state. A Freeze Warning is in effect for much of the north through Monday morning.
While frost this time of year isn’t unusual for northern Wisconsin, the risk could shift based on overnight cloud cover and east winds at 5–10 mph, which might prevent frost formation in some central areas.
If you have sensitive plants, either cover them or bring potted ones indoors. Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s to low 30s in the north and mid-30s in central Wisconsin by early Monday.
Cool and Breezy Start to the Week
Expect a breezy Monday with a mix of sunshine and clouds. Highs will reach the low 60s, making for a mild but brisk day.
Next Weather System Brings Rain
Another system will move in Tuesday into early Wednesday, bringing rain to central and southern Wisconsin.
- Tuesday: Mostly cloudy and blustery, with wind gusts up to 40 mph. Rain will likely begin in the far south by late morning and move north toward Highway 29 during the afternoon.
- Highs: Upper 50s north, mid-50s in central and southern areas.
- Tuesday Night: Rain will taper to scattered showers, especially in the southern half.
- Wednesday: Showers exit early, followed by clearing skies and some afternoon sun. Highs will return to the low 60s.
Memorial Day Weekend Forecast
The holiday weekend looks partly sunny:
- Saturday & Sunday: Highs in the mid-60s with intervals of sunshine.
- Memorial Day (Monday): Slightly warmer, with highs in the mid to upper 60s and a mix of sun and clouds.
