New York Dad Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Pregnant Wife and Stabbing Children

A devastating family tragedy in upstate New York has led to a 30-year prison sentence for the man responsible for a violent and heartbreaking attack.

On May 15, 2025, Drew J. Garnier, 33, was sentenced in a Delaware County court after admitting to fatally stabbing his pregnant wife and injuring their two young children during a violent outburst. The brutal case, which unfolded in the quiet town of Masonville, has left deep emotional scars on the surviving victims.

The attack occurred in September 2024 at the family’s home on 330 Houck Road. New York State Police responded to a late-night emergency call reporting a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived, they discovered 29-year-old Samantha Garnier critically wounded, along with the couple’s two children, who had also been stabbed. Samantha was airlifted to Wilson Hospital but died from her injuries. Her unborn daughter also could not be saved.

The two children were taken to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where they received treatment and are expected to recover. Drew, then 32, was taken into custody at the scene after receiving minor treatment at A.O. Fox Hospital.

Initially facing charges of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder, Drew pleaded guilty in March to first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree assault.

During sentencing, Delaware County Court Judge John L. Hubbard emphasized the devastating consequences of Drew’s actions. “You took a life and injured your children,” he said. “They had a right to expect protection from you.”

Samantha’s father delivered powerful testimony in court, revealing a possible motive. He said Drew may have lashed out in anger over the baby’s gender, as he had hoped for a boy.

He also shared that he has since adopted the two girls and pledged to raise them with love and safety. “I’m their dad now,” he said. “And I’ll protect them.”

District Attorney Shawn J. Smith firmly opposed Drew’s request for future contact with the children and asked the court to issue a strict no-contact order.

The judge granted the request but added a clause allowing the court to revisit the decision if the children ever choose to reconnect.

In his final remarks, the district attorney acknowledged the deep pain endured by Samantha’s family and reaffirmed their support. “We can’t bring Samantha back,” he said, “but her killer is now where he belongs.”
