Andrew P. Manion has been selected as the ninth president of Edgewood College. He will start the role on June 1.
The Edgewood College Board of Trustees made the announcement on April 9.
In an email to Edgewood students, faculty and staff, Interim President Sister Mary Ellen Gevelinger said Manion will begin consulting with her in May.
“He is a great fit,” Gevelinger wrote, “and with his extensive higher education experience, will be able to have an immediate impact.”
Mary Schmoeger, a member of the board of trustees and the chair of the presidential search committee, said that Manion “separated and distinguished himself from other candidates in many ways, especially his deep understanding of issues facing higher education, a bold vision for the future and the executive experience to manage the intersection of sustaining financial health and innovation.”
Manion has been president of Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wis., since 2016. During his work at Marian, the university grew exponentially in enrollment, expanded athletic and academic facilities, and made great progress in diversity, inclusion and social justice, according to the Edgewood College press release.
Prior to his time at Marian University, Manion held positions at Aurora University and Saint Mary’s University. He is also the president of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
“My wife, Amy, and I are very much looking forward to joining the Edgewood College family and in joining the greater Madison community,” Manion said in a video to the Edgewood community. “We have been very impressed by the commitment of the faculty and staff at Edgewood College to the success of our students.”
Manion has a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology and a Master of Arts in Psychology from Adelphi University in Long Island, N.Y. He completed his undergraduate degree from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wis.
