Edgewood searches for disability services workers

Following the elimination of Kasey Hoffman’s position and Grace Bandoh’s resignation, Edgewood College is currently in the market for disability services workers.

Matt Sullivan, assistant vice president for student development, said the search was nationwide, and that Edgewood has already received applications.

Barb Perkins is a mental health professional and the mother of an incoming Edgewood freshman, as well as a 2018 graduate. She told OTE she was concerned about the vacancy in disability services.

“I am trying to be watchful of this issue as my son is increasingly worried that his books will not be available on audio through the school,“ said Perkins this month. “He is anxious enough that he may not be able to attend classes in person as well as the learning disability.”

Perkins originally reached out to OTE for information. “We haven’t been told what the plan is to meet student needs,” she said.

Perkins also spoke of her concerns regarding Bandoh’s resignation. “I am disappointed as she has been helpful for my daughter with one small issue that she had and provided a comforting connection as my son navigates the transition. It really felt like she had the talent to run that department well.”

Sullivan said he thinks Edgewood will have someone hired by Fall 2020. He also identified a qualified individual to serve in an interim role. “I anticipate that students with disabilities should notice no real change in services for the Fall 2020 semester,” said Sullivan.
