A 20-year-old Edgewood College student was arrested on campus Thursday morning for five tentative counts of the possession of child pornography, Madison police said.

On The Edge has decided to refrain from naming the student until more information is made public.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported that Madison police, along with local special victims and federal investigators, facilitated the arrest. The student was then taken to Dane County Jail for processing.

The police report filed Sept. 30 stated that the student “has been the subject of an ongoing investigation.”

President Andrew Manion alerted students and faculty of the arrest in a campus-wide email, asking all to “refrain from speculation and gossip and to pray for all involved.”

“I would like to remind all that our judicial system has, as a central tenet, the presumption of innocence until proof of guilt is established with due process of the law,” he added.

Manion wrote that police informed him that “there was no physical threat to any student, faculty, or staff member” related to the arrest.
