A Flash Flood Warning remains in place for parts of Butler and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania through 11:15 p.m. Wednesday, as heavy rainfall continues to impact the region. The National Weather Service warns that ongoing downpours and possible thunderstorms could worsen localized flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage.
More Rain Expected Wednesday Evening
Pittsburgh’s Action Weather meteorologist Jeff Verszyla said more rain is likely into the evening, with embedded downpours and isolated gusty thunderstorms possible. The risk of thunderstorms is highest before 8 p.m., particularly southwest of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Earlier in the day, a broad area of rain swept through the Pittsburgh region. Another wave of scattered showers began moving in around 3–4 p.m. and will persist into the night.
Flood Watch Through Thursday Morning
A flood watch remains in effect for southwestern Pennsylvania until 5 a.m. Thursday. Rainfall totals are expected to range from 1.5 to 3 inches, depending on location, with the possibility of more where downpours and thunderstorms occur.
Residents are urged to stay alert for:
- Flooding in low-lying and urban areas
- Overflowing streams and creeks
- Washed-out roads and unstable ground
Cool, Damp Weather Ahead of Memorial Day Weekend
The unsettled weather will linger into Thursday, making it an Impact Day due to flooding concerns. On Friday, clouds will stick around, and temperatures will remain in the 50s, with a slight chance of isolated showers.
Memorial Day weekend looks drier, but cooler than average. Highs will gradually climb into the 60s, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 60s to near 70 by Memorial Day, though it won’t quite feel like summer just yet.
Safety Tip: Avoid driving through flooded roadways and stay informed with local weather alerts.
