Charles Rogers, a former college football standout, tragically passed away during the Brooklyn Half Marathon on Saturday. The 31-year-old collapsed near the eighth mile of the course at Ocean Parkway and 18th Avenue around 8:11 a.m., with officials confirming he went into cardiac arrest.
Rogers began his football career in 2012 as a defensive back at Iowa State before transferring to the University of Minnesota in 2015. After injuries cut his 2015 season short and sidelined him the following year, he transferred again to Lindenwood University in Missouri, where he eventually retired from football.
The University of Minnesota football team paid tribute to their former player on Instagram, writing, “Our hearts are broken as former Gopher Charles Rogers tragically passed over the weekend while running the Brooklyn Marathon. Our thoughts are with the Rogers family and all of his loved ones.”
Lindenwood University also honored him with a statement shared online. “The Lindenwood Football family mourns the loss of Ace Rogers,” the message read. “Our thoughts & prayers go out to his wife Sydney, his parents Teresa Jordan & Charles Rogers, and the rest of his family.”
Rogers’ wife, Sydney, spoke to The Post following the heartbreaking loss. “Charles put everything he had into everything he did,” she said. “While he leaves behind a wife and family that already miss him terribly, he loved being competitive and left us being 100% himself.”
Known for his drive and commitment both on and off the field, Rogers leaves behind a legacy of determination and passion that deeply impacted those who knew him.
