Man and woman found dead after house explosion in Washington Township, NJ

Officials in Washington Township, New Jersey are investigating what caused a massive explosion that killed a man and woman and leveled a home.

It happened around 2.a.m. Sunday at a home on Tranquility Court.

The blast, caught on surveillance video, showed the powerful flames.

“It was a real loud boom. It was loud. I said, something’s wrong,” said neighbor, Jimmy Gibson. “The whole house was in flames already, that fast as soon as the explosion happened. I called 911 as I was walking out the house.”

The explosion woke up neighbors from blocks away.

“It was huge, huge, sound like a bomb went off,” said Suzanne Pinto.

The intense blaze also damaged a neighbor’s home.

Jill Rauf says she, her husband, and their dog managed to wake up and get out safely.

“The flames were.. I’ve never seen anything like that before. Engulfed. The house was engulfed,” said Rauf.

Multiple agencies are involved including the Washington Township Police Department’s Detective Bureau, Washington Township Fire Investigators, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, and the New Jersey Division of Fire Marshal.

The cause of the home explosion remains under investigation.
