Men’s basketball team makes playoffs
The Edgewood College men’s basketball team finished its 2018-2019 season Feb. 20. The team made the playoffs this year and lost the first round to Aurora University in Illinois on a last-second three-pointer.
Players still feel they had a great season even though they did not make it as far as they would have liked.
They set a school record for threes in a single game – a major accomplishment – and the team also took a trip to Las Vegas over winter break.
Senior Emil Radišević, a center for the Eagles, reflected on his season. “Just being with the team and coaches a special camaraderie is built that can’t be duplicated anywhere else,” he said. “I’ve grown a lot as a person, especially with McClain, Tyler, and Sy (the other senior players).”
Women’s Basketball: Lonigro breaks records
Brooke Lonigro, a sophomore on the women’s basketball team, broke the NACC single season record for assist-to-turnover ratio.
Lonigro’s record was 3.74, and the previous record held was 3.01 from the 2008-2009 season. She finished with 131 assists and 35 turnovers.
Along with this record, Lonigro placed third out of all Division III schools for her assist-to-turnover ratio. She also finished with the second most assists in a single season in Edgewood College women’s basketball history, as well as third in assists in a single season.
“I’m excited about these achievements, but am even more motivated to expand my game and continue to grow as a player so I can reach my future goals,” Lonrigro said.
She said she is hopeful the team will win conference next year.
Track and Field: Off to a Promising Start
The 2019 Track and Field season is off to a promising start.
The team just finished its indoor conference, the NACC Indoor Championship, at the end of February where players took home multiple awards and medals both as a team and individually.
The team is excited to start the outdoor season as spring is around the corner and the weather is finally warming up.
Claire Wichert is a senior on the team who participates in the 55-meter dash, 100-meter dash, and the 4×100 meter relay.
“At every meet, there’s always someone cheering you on, no matter the event or how many events the person cheering you on has left,” Wichert said. “If we’re not racing or jumping…we’re on the track cheering for our teammates.”
