JIM WELLS COUNTY, Texas — A single mother of two was killed in a tragic crash on Wednesday, May 14, when her vehicle was struck by a semi-truck after she allegedly ran a stop sign, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The victim, Lindsey Webster, was a 2019 graduate of Orange Grove High School and was close to completing her college degree in pharmacology at the time of the crash. The collision occurred near the intersection of Farm-to-Market 2044 and North Highway 281, approximately 10 miles from Orange Grove.
Former Teachers Remember Lindsey Webster
News of Webster’s death shocked those who knew her, especially former teachers who remembered her as a standout student.
“I was shocked,” said DeDe Cunningham, who taught Webster at Orange Grove High. “I couldn’t believe it. It was one of those stories that you’re like, this can’t be real. And for something so tragic to hit so close to home.”
Cunningham recalled Webster as an exceptional student with a bright future.
“Very driven. She had everything going for her. Her abilities were outstanding. She was a great, great student. Very mature, very dependable. It’s a great loss,” she said.
Community Mourns for Her Children
Teachers also expressed concern for Webster’s two young daughters, who are now left without their mother.
“I think about those little girls and not getting to have their mom with them anymore. I can’t imagine losing a child. From a parent’s standpoint—I just can’t imagine there being a greater loss,” Cunningham added.
Molly Dobson, another teacher from Orange Grove High, shared her heartbreak:
“All I could think about is her babies. She’s got two little girls. We’re praying for them. We’re praying for those babies. It’s so heartbreaking what they’re having to deal with.”
Investigation Ongoing
The DPS continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities are also reviewing toxicology reports as part of the ongoing investigation.
