Pennsylvania officials have dismantled a wide-reaching insurance telemarketing fraud operation, leading to the indictment of four individuals and two companies that misled consumers across the U.S. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department (PID) launched the investigation into the scam, run under names like Seguro Medico, Quick Health, and YourBenefits4U, back in 2015.
The companies falsely claimed to offer comparisons between their insurance plans and others on the market, tricking consumers into purchasing inadequate coverage. Investigators also discovered that thousands of insurance applications had been submitted by individuals and businesses lacking proper licenses.
Although Pennsylvania revoked the companies’ licenses in 2022, they allegedly continued to operate in other states. PID responded to complaints from consumers nationwide and partnered with federal agencies—including the FBI and IRS Criminal Investigation Division—to support broader legal actions.
Authorities believe the fraudulent scheme inflicted serious financial damage on victims across the country.
In addition to issuing consent orders that barred the companies from operating in Pennsylvania, PID’s enforcement efforts were crucial in revealing the scope of the deception. Officials are urging the public to verify licensure before purchasing insurance, remain wary of unsolicited offers, and steer clear of high-pressure tactics.
Pennsylvania residents can report suspected insurance fraud via PID’s hotline or website. Commissioner Michael Humphreys reaffirmed that protecting consumers from deceptive practices continues to be a central priority for the department.
