Seniors graduating this spring will not be walking the stage until May 2021, according to an email sent this afternoon from Interim President Sister Mary Ellen Gevelinger.
The class of 2020 has been invited to return for the May 2021 ceremony, where they can be honored alongside the graduating class of 2021.
“We will keep your edgewood.edu email active, and we’ll communicate details about that date as they develop,” said Gevelinger in the email.
The college announced the cancellation of this year’s commencement ceremony, scheduled for May 17, on March 23.
In the email from Gevelinger, Future President Andrew Manion extended an opportunity for graduates to have a “private commencement ceremony” with him as soon as Wisconsin’s Safer-at-Home order is lifted to allow small group gatherings this summer.
Students and their families will be able to sign up for a time and date to come to the president’s office for a five-minute “ceremony,” Manion said.
“You will be provided a ‘loaner’ cap and gown, I will confer your degree, and pictures will be taken as I hand you your diploma. You will be asked to ‘move your tassel to the left’ as is traditional, and you will receive the Dominican Blessing,” he said.
Regardless if 2020 graduates attend the ceremony next spring, they will receive their diplomas this coming June as part of a COR of Commencement package. Gevelinger advises students to verify their addresses on Edgewood Express to ensure they receive the package.
Graduating students are advised to keep an eye on their emails for further updates.
