Violence Prevention Group provides resources for students on campus

Edgewood College has a grant from the Department of Justice to help educate students and prevent sexual assaults, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

The Violence Prevention Group has a goal of bringing awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence while providing resources for students who are affected, according to Katie Kleich, who runs the program.

“We provide all the resources we can,” said peer educator Maddie DiModica. “We give instructions that if something has happened and a person would like to report an attack, they can go to the security office.” The security office provides a packet of resources that includes information about hospitals, the RCC (rape crisis center), hotline numbers, and personal counseling information on campus.

DiModica said the security office can also provide information on rape kits. Security and personal counseling services can also help students who may want to report an incident.

Kleich said there are many ways that students can get involved. Peer educators are students who “educate their peers on bystander intervention” as well as campus resources, which include an advocate from the Rape Crisis Center.

Kleich said although the group is not hiring any more peer educators at the moment, there are still many ways to get involved. Interested students can contact her via email for more information.
