West Coast Protesters Rally in Support of Birthright Citizenship

May 15 (UPI) — Protesters gathered Thursday outside federal immigration offices in San Jose, California, to express support for birthright citizenship and denounce former President Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

The Solidarity and Unity Network of San Jose organized the one-hour rally, which began at 11 a.m. PDT at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office. Protesters later marched to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building at 11:30 a.m.

The demonstration coincided with the Supreme Court’s oral arguments on Trump’s executive order aiming to end automatic birthright citizenship in the United States. Protesters voiced strong opposition to the proposal, citing concerns over its impact on immigrant communities and constitutional protections.

The event opened with a press conference, where speakers criticized the former administration’s approach to immigration enforcement, specifically calling out ICE’s tactics and the legal efforts to revoke birthright citizenship.

Organizers and attendees called for immigration reform, an end to deportations, and continued protection of automatic citizenship for those born in the U.S.

An event flyer summed up their demands, stating that participants are “fighting Trump” while pushing to “build a better economic and political system.”

“Resist Trump & build a new system,” the flyer read.
