Writing Center works to build social media presence

Edgewood’s Writing Center is working on implementing a new social media policy which will incorporate a larger online presence.

The plan, according to supervisor Mikayla Mrochek, is to start with a Facebook account, which will post information regarding the center as well as tutoring opportunities.

“We’re hoping that social media will help advertise to more students on and off campus, as well as dispel some of the myths about what we do in the Writing Center,” said Mrochek, who also hopes that this will increase the college’s dialogue about academic writing.

Social media such as Facebook is constantly in use by college students, and while the Writing Center is a service that is decently utilized already, this sort of exposure is useful in reaching an even larger audience of students who may potentially need help with writing assignments.

It also encourages them to produce better written work by giving them motivation to get help rather than procrastinate and hand in last minute pieces, something many students are, unfortunately, guilty of.

The staff at the Writing Center are still working on finalizing their social media policy, but students should keep their eyes peeled for updates.
