Edgewood College is the only private school in Wisconsin to be recognized as a top school for military veterans. 70 of the 2,221 students on the Edgewood campus are veterans, and military veterans’ graduation rate at Edgewood is 67 percent.
A comprehensive list of colleges has been developed by the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges 2019 list, which details colleges that provide the best programs and services for active-duty and veteran students.
The list is put together to assist military students in choosing which school will be the best for them. Military Times takes surveys from colleges and analyzes federal data to rank schools in various areas, such as student support and academic quality.
The list is the divided into two-year schools, technical colleges, four-year schools, and online or nontraditional schools.
Of the 137 schools on the list for “Top 4-Year Schools,” there are four colleges in Wisconsin. These include UW-Stout (#128), UW-Whitewater (#119), Edgewood College (#97), and UW-Superior (#72).
Of these, Chase Crull, who is affiliated with the Veterans Association on campus, said the office helps establish support for veterans and active-duty students.
“The purpose of the office is to coordinate veterans, make sure they get their benefits, and develop a sort of culture on the campus,” Crull said. “We also have advising services for veterans and other things. If there’s spare time, we might watch a movie or play video games and just hang out.”
The Veterans Association also tries to be active in the Edgewood community. In October, they hosted a Rocket League tournament in coordination with the Streaming Eagles esports team on campus.
