Edgewood presidential search continues

By Kali Azzara

More than 80 people have applied for the Edgewood College presidency since former President Scott Flanagan left last summer.

“We are impressed with the diversity of the applications and the caliber of talented leaders who are interested in the position,” said Mary Schmoeger, one of the college board members who is leading the search for a new president.

The Edgewood College website said, “The president will be entrusted to passionately embrace and promote the mission, identity, values and heritage of Edgewood College as a Catholic liberal arts school. Through a personal and profound committee to the Dominican values of truth, compassion, justice, partnership and community, she/he will be able to express, to individuals and groups alike, the value of a faith-based higher education.”

The search team is welcoming resumes from people of all, if any, faith backgrounds, but the new president will have to uphold the values of the college.

“So although the leader may not be a Catholic, there will be expectations that they will represent and model the values and be a champion for all that the Dominican heritage has and will continue to provide to Edgewood College,” Schmoeger said.

The deadline for hiring is July 1.
