Rain bedeviled plans for the Haunted Trail event Oct. 28 but the Monster Mash inside Washburn Heritage Hall and Phil’s Dining Hall spirited in a scary and enjoyable Halloween on the Edgewood campus.  The Monster Mash featured cookies, candy, and games such as Tic Tac Toe.

Sara Bahr, a senior at Edgewood college, helped coordinate the event. Sara said that quick action over two hours helped volunteers set up inside the entertainment space once the rain changed everyone’s plans.

In addition to OSII, and student planning, the Theatre Department provided help for the event.

Actors, initially scheduled to be on the Haunted Trail, trolled the Phil’s Dining Hall area dressed in costumes due to the weather. One wore a ski mask modeled after Jason from “Friday the 13th”, a second was an escaped prisoner, and a third was a serial killer, covered in blood holding a baseball bat.

Josie Berger, a sophomore and the serial killer actor at the event, said Jeanne Leap, professor in the Theatre Arts department, emailed students Oct. 13 asking for people to help out as actors at the event. Berger, a theater minor, has had previous acting experience in high school and college productions, and said she was happy to help out.

Some attendees expressed disappointment that the original Haunted Trail had been canceled.

Destin Eurich, who enjoyed the event as a junior at Edgewood, said he had looked forward to the Haunted Trail but enjoyed the video games that the event had available.

Bahr, who was helping coordinate this event said, “I am uncertain if we will be doing the Monster Mash and Haunted Trail again, as our decision was partially informed by the current COVID-19 limitations.”
