COVID restrictions didn’t stop the Office of Student Involvement and Inclusion (OSII) from welcoming back students after winter break with safe gatherings. The office also is offering activities for Black History Month in the next few weeks.

Nikki Charlestin, coordinator for Student Engagement and Leadership, led the Bring it Back Breakfast Jan. 19 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Predolin Commons. Around 15 students grabbed a broad range of offerings in The Wingra Grill and Cafe, including muffins, granola, oatmeal, Pop-Tarts, fruit, tea, milk and coffee.

On the evening of Jan. 20 a group of 10-15 students worked together at a Blanket Making event in Predolin. Students could choose different fabrics for their own blankets.

Sadie Loduha, a sophomore, said she looked forward to showing her friends how to make a blanket.

“It really isn’t that hard once you get the first few steps down,” she said.

Charlestin recently told OTE that student input helps her chose event topics. She used a student survey at the end of last semester to assess what students wanted. She also used input from OSII’s team of ambassadors.

Terrarium night and bingo are among the most popular events for students, along with crafting, according to Charlestin.

“I would rather have all of the events in person but due to COVID-19, that’s not possible,” she added.

OSII has also been offering events for Black History Month. Students can follow OSII on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay updated on events to come.
